Questions.
How long does a shower retile take?
A standard shower retile can be done in as little as 5 working days, including tear-out, waterproofing, a 24-hour flood test, tile and grout. You can shower again once the grout cures. Tub-to-shower conversions, and any damage we find behind the old tile, add time. Your written quote includes your exact schedule.
Do you tear everything out, or tile over the old tile?
We take it down to the studs. Old tile, mortar and backer board come out so we can see what's behind them. Tiling over old tile hides problems like rot and leaks, and they come back.
How do you make sure it won't leak?
A full waterproofing membrane goes on behind the tile, then we flood-test the shower for 24 hours before setting any tile. The floor is sloped to the drain so water runs out instead of sitting in the corners.
What if you find damage behind the old tile?
It happens in older LA homes: rotted framing, a leaking valve, an out-of-level floor. If we find something, we stop, show you what we found and give you the price to fix it before we do anything about it.
Can I buy my own tile?
Yes. Your estimate includes a tile allowance based on the finish you picked. If you'd rather supply your own tile, we take the allowance off. We'll help you pick and tell you how much to order.
Do I need a permit?
Usually not for retiling alone. If the job moves plumbing or the drain, as many tub-to-shower conversions do, it needs one. We'll tell you at the site visit and handle the permit if your job needs it.
Who will actually be working in my house?
One of our expert tile installers sets your tile, and our crew handles tear-out and cleanup. We protect your floors on the way in and clean up when the job is done.
Are you licensed and insured, and what's the warranty?
Yes. We hold a California C-54 tile contractor license and carry liability insurance. Our license number is available on request. Our tile work has a 2-year workmanship warranty: if it fails, we come back and fix it.
